What is aesthetic kinesiology taping?

Around the world, kinesiology taping has become increasingly popular in the field of cosmetology and has been proven highly effective in facial treatments. Aesthetic facial kinesiology taping is an ecological way to care for the face and décolleté area, helping to reduce and prevent puffiness and wrinkles.

Specially designed kinesiology tapes can influence the muscles, fascia, ligaments, and subcutaneous fat beneath the skin. The taping techniques are based on the unique properties of the tape, where the direction of pull and the use of elasticity play an essential role in achieving the desired effects.

When applied to the skin, kinesiology tape creates a gentle effect on the epidermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscles, and ligaments. Studies have shown that kinesiology tape applied to the skin stimulates microcirculation, which helps improve metabolic processes within the tissues.

Taping can be used to relax or activate muscles, reduce swelling by supporting lymphatic circulation, and promote overall tissue function. In other words, kinesiology tape can help activate muscles, enhance muscle function, encourage relaxation, and reduce excess fluid retention.

Another important benefit of kinesiology tape is its ability to support the function of the basal layer of the epidermis. This is the layer where cell division and skin renewal take place. In younger skin, renewal occurs approximately every 28 days, but as we age, the process slows down and may take up to 90 days in older individuals. In this way, kinesiology taping can help support the skin’s natural renewal process.

The tapes also help create a so-called “muscle memory,” which may assist in minimizing excessive facial expressions and reducing them over time with regular taping. In addition, taping can help prevent the accumulation of residual muscle tension and spasms — creating an effect often compared to the relaxing benefits of Botox, but naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of tape can be used on the face?

We recommend using Faceimage facial tape specifically designed for the face. The tape is created for delicate facial skin and is generally gentle and non-allergenic.

Where can I buy the tape?

Kinesiology tape designed for the face is available in the Faceimage online store.

How can I test the tape?
Place a small piece of tape on the inside of your wrist and leave it on for 15 minutes. If no reaction occurs, the tape can be safely used on the face.
How long should the tapes be kept on the face?

The tapes are typically worn for 3–4 hours during the day or overnight for around 8 hours. Some taping applications can be worn for longer periods, such as frown line taping and lymphatic taping.

How is the tape removed from the skin?

The tape should be removed gently by holding the skin with one hand or by using an oil, such as coconut oil.

Apply a small amount of oil over the tape, let it absorb for a few minutes, and then carefully remove the tape. This method is especially recommended for sensitive areas such as around the eyes or the neck.

How often should taping be done?

Taping can be done daily or every other day in a series of 15 sessions, and afterwards as needed. For specific concern areas, such as frown lines, the tape can be applied daily or around 5 times per week.

Is this taping technique effective?

This taping technique has proven to be highly effective, as demonstrated by thousands of women around the world. I have studied aesthetic facial taping at one of the leading international kinesiology taping education centers. This particular taping technique originates from South Korea.

Can the tape damage the skin?

When used correctly, the tape does not damage the skin.

Is taping suitable during pregnancy?

Aesthetic facial kinesiology taping is suitable during pregnancy.

Can I use the tape if I have a fever?

The tape should not be used during an acute cold or while having a fever.

Can the tape be used if there is a raised mole on the face or neck?

Raised moles should be avoided when applying the tape, or a small hole can be cut into the tape around the mole area.

What is the difference between regular kinesiology tape and lymphatic tape?

Lymphatic tape is designed to enhance lymphatic circulation. The perforations in the tape create pressure differences within the skin tissue, which helps stimulate lymph flow. Lymphatic tape is considered to be around 20% more effective than regular kinesiology tape for supporting lymphatic drainage.

Can kinesiology taping be combined with face yoga or facial massage?

Yes — and it is actually highly recommended. For example, using kinesiology tape after a facial massage can enhance the effects of the treatment. Facial exercises can also be practiced while wearing the tape, which may further support and activate muscle function.
